Goals
Our goal at Short Grass is to raise cattle for the REAL WORLD. That means no special care, no special treatment, and no creep feed. We want these cows to go out on grass and prove to us what they can put into their calves and what the calves perform like on grass. If they wouldn't work for us we don't offer it to you.
Animal Health
No one cow gets left behind in our herd. Weather it is a Purebred cow or not we make sure our whole herd is vaccinated for the safety of our herd and yours. All treatments given to cattle are done so in a humane manner. Nutrition is also a huge priority here as we strive to meet the cattle's nutritional needs every step of the way. That means a year round mineral program!
Data Collecting
We strive to collect the data our customers want to see. While doing so we remain honest and truthful about the data that is collected. There is no guessing at birthweights or weaning weights.

The cows at Short Grass Limousin are expected to preform without a whole lot of special care. Calving starts in early February followed by vaccination of cows and calves in April before heading to pasture in May. The purebred cows graze along side the commercial cows until sometime in early December. The entire herd is on a full vaccination program to ensure the health of our cattle and yours. In addition to this bulls are pulled in July to limit the possibility of any disease transmission and ensure the cows are rebred within a limited time frame.
After the calves have been weaned in early October (with no creep feed during the summer months), they are put on a balanced ration of free choice hay, grain, and minerals. We believe the balanced ration will allow the calves to grow without impact to their feet or legs in the future. The bulls are weighed regularly to allow close monitoring of their growth. Semen testing comes in late spring to ensure the bulls are fertile. All purebred calves are recorded into digital beef to allow for accurate EPD's on our Herd Bulls as well as future sale calves we sell to you.
